PYLUSD Trustee Area Districts
The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District is divided into areas for voting on school board trustees. Only Districts 4 and 5 are up for re-election in 2026.
Districts 1, 2, and 3 are not voting this year. Their trustees' terms were voted on in 2024. Visit the PYLUSD website for more about Trustee Area Elections.
See the Trustee District Area Map.
PYLUSD District 4
✅ Barb Buckley
I recommend voting Yes for Barb Buckley.
Barb Buckley has served faithfully in school and community volunteer roles for many years. Her endorsements include Association of Placentia-Linda Educators, Carrie Buck (incumbent PYLUSD board trustee for area 5), and Karin Freeman, who served on the PYLUSD board 1989-2022.
Her community resume is long, and includes many instances of school service, such as PTA. One service item that stands out to me is that she is on the board at Homeless Intervention Services of Orange County and volunteers at their thrift store, Charity's Closet.
PYLUSD District 5
✅ Carrie Buck
I recommend voting Yes for Carrie Buck.
Carrie Buck is the incumbent for District 5. She has served four terms on the PYLUSD board. She's a former Executive Director of Homeless Intervention Services of Orange County
You can hear Carrie Buck in this podcast interview from 2022 talk about how she got started in PYLUSD. Before joining the school board, she was an instructional assistant in special education for the District. She became involved in her children’s schools while serving on the PTA and School Site Council, and as the school’s representative to the Superintendent’s Community Advisory Council.
California State
At the California state level, there's an important education seat up for election.
California State Superintendent of Public Instruction
✅ Richard Barrera
I recommend voting Yes for Richard Barrera.
Richard Barrera won his spot on the ballot after a primary that had many qualified candidates. Richard Barrera has served on the San Diego Board of Education since 2008. He endorses our own PYLUSD trustee, Carrie Buck.

🚫 No to Sonja Shaw
I strongly recommend voting against Sonja Shaw. Sonja Shaw has been on the Chino Valley Unified School Board. She is promoting unkind views and anti-rights rhetoric, and her actions include harassing children at school sporting events.
